Transforming an empty back lawn into a Gardener’s Utopia

The existing retaining wall was unsound, so we stregthened it and slope cut the posts, followed by sealing them with a waterproofing agent.

Then on our suggestion, as there was plenty of space, we installed a second retaining wall. This not only provided an ample vegetable garden, it looked a lot better and meant the space in front of the prospective studio shed wasn’t encroached upon.

The shed area wasn’t level, so we corrected this by installing a level platform. Once the shed was installed, we levelled the lawn area, installed raised garden boxes in various heights made of untreated redwood. We installed a brick mowing strip then spread gravel over the weedmatted area.

This job had a multifaceted brief. The large back lawn provided a great blank canvas. The client, being an avid gardener, wanted a raised veggie garden, with an all season gravelled area with different height planters for her ornamental plants. They had ordered a wooden shed to be used as a studio, for which we needed to prepare the area, so another contractor could install the shed.
